Safety Precautions Using the BOSS LS-2440 Laser Cutter
Before you start cutting or engraving with the LS-2440, it’s essential to follow all safety procedures. These precautions are designed to keep you, the equipment, and your workspace safe.
Before Using the Laser Cutter
Clear the area: Remove any flammable materials (e.g., paper, scraps, tape).
Check fire extinguisher: Ensure it’s within reach and charged.
Wear safety glasses: Especially when working with reflective materials.
Turn on the vent fan: Flip the wall switch to power the exhaust system before use.
Verify chiller is running: Ensure the laser tube cooling system is operating and within safe temperature range.
Verify the air assist compressor is running: Ensure the air assist system is operating to clear debris and cool the material.
Double-check material safety: Only use approved materials (e.g., acrylic, wood, leather). Do NOT use PVC or polycarbonate!
While Operating the LS-2440
Never leave the machine unattended: Always monitor active jobs.
Ensure ventilation is working: You should see air movement and smell reduction.
Use the air assist: This helps reduce flames and improves cut quality.
Keep the lid closed: The safety interlock will stop the laser if it’s opened mid-job—avoid interrupting cuts unless necessary.
After Finishing Your Job
Carefully remove your material: Don’t touch freshly cut pieces immediately—they may still be hot.
Clean the work area: Remove dust, small pieces, and residue.
Turn off the chiller, the air assist, and vent fan: Wait 2–3 minutes before turning off to allow cooling.
Power down: Simply turn the the power key counter-clockwise.
